Instructional Goals
Instructional Goals for this professional development session
Instructor will introduce the concept of SAMR
- Learners will be able to install the Flippity extension, Goobric extension and Doctopus Add-on.
- Learners will be able to identify ways to use Google Keep
- Learners will be able to create a rubric in Google Sheets, ingest an assignment using the Doctopus Chrome extension and attach the rubric using Goobric Chrome extension.
Learners
Teachers at Central Coosa High School have a wide variety of technological experience. Based off of a survey conducted, most teachers are very comfortable with technology in the classroom and 64 percent report using technology on a daily basis. The teaches have a generally positive attitude about the role technology plays in their classrooms. Full survey results can be viewed here.
While the students at the school are in their third year with Chromebooks, the teachers have a varied background from veteran teachers experienced with technology to new teachers with no technology background.
Content
Flippity Is an add-on for Google Sheets that turns the spreadsheet interactive. The pre-made templates allow for a wide variety of formative assessments and review activities.
Keep Is an online note-taking system that is part of the GSuites. It allows for color coding notes, collaborating, and provides different options for students and teachers to share notes.
Sheets is Google's answer to Excel.
Doctopus Is a Chrome Extension that works with Google Classroom and Google Sheets. Doctopus can distribute templates to students and "ingest" assignments into a spreadsheet for easy assessment and feedback. It works in conjunction with Goobric.
Goobric is a Chrome Extension that works with Google Sheets and the Doctopus extension. It is a digital rubric. When working together with the Doctopus Extension, the teacher is able to assess through a series of check boxes. When the teacher is finished grading, the rubric is attached to the student's assignment. Students are also able to complete a self-assessment using the student version.
During the practicum, I also worked extensively with GoGuardian, a device monitoring software. GoGuardian allows the teacher screen monitoring and chat. The teacher is able to take screen shots of student computers, track website usage during sessions, and set a variety of "scenes" for student work. The scenes are customizable to allow or block specific websites and teachers are also able to limit the number of windows a student has open.
Performance Context
Learners will gather in my classroom. They will bring their Chromebooks. A Google Classroom will be set up for learners to join in order to encourage collaboration and as a place for them to ask questions after the sessions.
Assessment:
Assessment will be after the training. Each teacher will be asked to implement one of the tools introduced into classroom use.
